Physical Education at Parkhill Infants' School
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
- Joseph Addison
Exercise is not only the key to physical health, but to peace of mind.
- Nelson Mandela
Our PE curriculum is designed to contribute to healthy and active lifestyles; improve emotional well-being, reduce challenging behaviour, increase attendance and develop key skills such as leadership, confidence, social and team building skills.
Athletic games make exercising fun!
The school employs trained sports coaches, using Government Sport Premium funding, to give specialised coaching in a variety of sports. Gymnastics and Dance are also part of our curriculum, providing our children with the opportunity to try out all kinds of different activities.
Our Physical education VISION
At Parkhill Infants' School we believe that physical education is an essential part of a child’s educational development.
We recognise the importance of promoting and developing a healthy lifestyle and aim to provide a high-quality, broad, rich and engaging curriculum through offering a variety of activities to enhance all skills.
We recognise the benefits of high quality PE provision that school sports can give to all pupils.
Positive and inclusive participation in physical education enables children to build self-esteem, practise teamwork and develop positive attitudes across the curriculum. Our aim is that children develop a passion for sports and exercise both inside and outside of school. This should, in turn, build the foundations for children to have a healthy lifestyle and and manage a balanced diet; this is also explored in PSHE and and Science lessons across the school.
We explore curriculum topics through Dance throughout the school year - Bollywood Dancing at Diwali and Lion Dancing at Chinese New Year, as well as African Dancing for Black History Month. These are all examples of how the children learn through movement, provided by external workshops as part of curriculum enrichment.
Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
- Article 29, UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
