Implementation

At Parkhill Infants’ School, we believe that all children need careful nurturing to make progress and achieve their best, regardless of background, needs and challenges.  We make the most of every moment in a child’s time with us and provide a wealth of experiences in order to secure long term memories.

Teaching is meaningful because it is clearly structured with a daily programme of discrete, daily teaching of reading skills through our systematic synthetic phonics programme (Read, Write Inc), mathematics (White Rose Maths) and handwriting (Nelson).  Teachers interleave the skills into well planned and sequenced lessons building on children’s skills and knowledge that they have been taught previously.  Teachers nurture children, taking into account the different starting points for every unique child.

Teaching is memorable because we provide opportunities for learning and making connections in our stimulating classroom and outdoor environment.  All curriculum subjects are flexibly interwoven into each learning journey.  Teachers immerse children in high quality literature so that they develop excellent reading skills and are passionate and enthusiastic about reading.  Teachers place reading, and carefully selected books, at the heart of learning.  At Parkhill Infants’ School we believe that Reading Together Makes a Difference!

Teaching is magical because we provide irresistible first hand learning experiences.  Children at Parkhill Infants’ School have the opportunity to battle knights in a castle, care for a baby dragon, and rescue penguins from Antarctica… amongst many other things! This is enhanced by our educational visit provision, as well as bringing in unforgettable experiences for children in school. These are planned as stunning starters, marvellous middles and fantastic finishes to our learning journeys. Our theme days and suite of after-school clubs further enrich children's experiences and make learning stick!
